  • Key leader in historic Pine Barrens lawsuit: Zenk wrote an amicus curiae brief for several dozen environmental and civic organizations in a landmark case, which resulted in the Long Island Pine Barrens Maritime Reserve Act, which protects over one hundred thousand acres of land on Long Island and protects the Peconic Bay System.

  • Key leader East Hampton’s Harbor Protection Overlay District Legislation: Zenk helped research, develop, and write legislation designed to protect bays and harbors in East Hampton.

  • Spearheaded preservation of Wildwood Lake, Flanders: Zenk spearheaded the preservation of 1400 acres of Pine Barrens and the protection of one of Long Island's largest lakes by bringing an Article 78 lawsuit against the Southampton Town Planning Board and convincing Suffolk County officials to purchase the property.

  • Brought community theatre to blighted downtown area in Southampton: Zenk negotiated with United Artist to bring a theater to downtown Hampton Bays to re-develop a blighted shopping center. Zenk stopped construction of an oversized multiplex theater on a congested road and another near Sears Bellows County Park.

  • Key leader five acre up zoning, one third Southampton: Zenk was a key leader in the up zoning and establishment of an Aquifer Protection Overlay District in the “Pine Barrens” of Southampton, which protects the drinking water supply.

  • Key leader farmland preservation Southampton Town: Zenk was a key leader in helping to pass, strengthen, and develop a cluster law and Agricultural Protection Overlay District in Southampton Town, which preserved hundreds of acres of farmland.

  • Key leader stopping incinerators on East End: Zenk served as the Group for the South Fork’s point person on solid waste management for four years and successfully lobbied against incinerators at all levels of government. Only the East End has no incinerators compared to the rest of Long Island.

Special laws govern development in the Long Island Pine Barrens.  Carolyn Zenk, Attorney at Law, represented over a dozen civic organizations and presented an amicus curiae brief supporting the historic Pine Barrens Act, which protects Long Island's drinking water.
