Vice President, Al Gore’s, “Champion of the Environment” Award.
Al Gore, Vice President of the United States, recognized Zenk’s outstanding legal/environmental work to protect the Long Island Pine Barrens, drinking water supply, and Peconic Bays. Zenk prepared an amicus curiae brief for over a dozen environmental/civic groups in the historic litigation that ultimately led to the establishment of the Long Island Pine Barrens Maritime Reserve Act, which protects over one hundred thousand acres of land on Long Island and protects marine resources surrounding Long Island.
Local Hero Award Monthly Magazine, December 1989: Zenk was prominently featured from all of Long Island’s citizens for her progressive community work, including her environmental preservation efforts on the East End.
Outstanding Young Woman of the Year Award: Awarded for working with Suffolk County Legislator Gregory Blass and Suffolk County’s citizens to bring the Union Carbide Corporation to justice for contaminating millions of gallons of Long Island's drinking water with the pesticide Temik. As a result, the Corporation provided filters to all citizens with contaminated wells. Zenk was nominated for the award by nationally-renowned author Karl Grossman.
Woman of the Year Award: Named by Congressman Michael Forbes for her community service.
Proclamation for Outstanding Community Service: Awarded by Suffolk County Legislature for protecting Suffolk County’s open spaces, wetlands, & drinking water 1984.
