What is a health care proxy? As its name implies, a health care proxy has to do with protecting your health. Someone stands in your stead as your “proxy” to make health care decisions when you cannot. It usually comes into play after you have been incapacitated by an accident or illness and when you cannot make decisions for yourself. It gives another person power to make health care decisions for you. Sometimes these decisions involve your very life. There are several technical requirements for these documents in New York that need to be followed for the health care proxy to be valid.
